据外国媒体报道，惠普于上周五发布了两个开源webOS 测试版，其中一个针对Ubuntu Linux桌面开发环境，另一个则针对"OpenEmbedded" 开发环境（便于开发者将webOS 植入新设备中）。
惠普 webOS团队将这两个测试版称为“八月版本”（The August Edition），新的测试版包括了45个开源webOS组件和45万行代码，同时获得Apache 2.0 授权。
此次发布的webOS桌面测试版本包括了一个webOS“系统经理”，可以作为应用程序在Ubuntu桌面上运行。“系统经理”功能包括了渲染webOS卡片视图、启动栏，状态条以及其他用户界面元素。核心webOS应用软件包括日程表和联系人，同时支持基于第三方JavaScript 框架Enyo开发的应用软件。
惠普表示，发布OpenEmbedded测试版是一项自然选择，因为OpenEmbedded平台的开发环境的应用程度较高，并支持在多个嵌入式平台之间的交叉编译。并且，这一开发环境集成了ARM模拟器，可以运行db8和node.js服务。
惠普开源 webOS 团队表示，他们将在9月公布有关webOS开源进一步计划。
