甲骨文支持Linux是噱头？无法撼动红帽

　　上周三，甲骨文的首席执行官埃利森向Red Hat 发起了全面攻击。但现在烟幕已经散去，埃利森的一些炮弹都打飞了。

　　甲骨文表示将支持Red Hat Enterprise Linux(RHEL)━━而且价格不足Red Hat 报价的一半儿，并将发布免费版产品。甲骨文宣布将由其自己的员工提供高质量的支持。

　　甲骨文公布了一项计划，使Red Hat 的技术支持业务收入流入自己的保险箱。上周四，Red Hat 的股票下跌了24% ，收盘价为14.83 美元，市值蒸发了6.81亿美元。

　　Red Hat 的业务受到了新的压力，但甲骨文要挖走Red Hat 的客户并非易事。甲骨文的关键症结是：与RHEL潜在的不兼容性。以思科为例，它为其开发人员的工作站购买了5000份RHEL支持协议。

　　思科一位技术支持人员担心，甲骨文的Linux 缺乏RHEL和Novell的Suse Linux Enterprise Server所拥有的硬件和软件认证。这名要求不透露姓名的人士称，要发展与这些厂商的关系需要好几年时间。

　　认证障碍

　　甲骨文认为，能够在RHEL上运行的应用软件都能够在它自己的Linux 版本上运行，但思科的这名技术人员称，事实情况并非完全如此。其他人士也持谨慎态度。

　　Smarter Living的技术主管威尔士说，我不会试图在一台RHEL服务器上安装甲骨文操作系统的补丁软件，这可能会造成一些不稳定问题。

　　BEA就是一个很好的例子。该公司负责投资者关系的高级主管埃利克说，你可能不相信认证过程的复杂性。我们必须对不同版本的操作系统、应用软件、硬件、Java虚拟机进行认证，增加一种操作系统意味着高昂的成本。如果甲骨文的操作系统得不到象我们这样的公司的支持，客户就不会采用它。

　　甲骨文要提供自己的补丁软件的表态━━有些补丁软件是Red Hat 没有提供的，会带来更进一步的问题。甲骨文表示，它将定期地对它的软件与Red Hat 的软件进行同步，但这意味着它将更多地依赖Red Hat ，避免与Red Hat 的产品不兼容。

　　First Albany分析师马克在上周四发表的一份报告中说，主要的危险是甲骨文将使Linux 分岔。如果Red Hat 不整合甲骨文的补丁软件，甲骨文会使Linux 分岔，而这会限制它的影响。

　　惩罚Red Hat

　　通过收购JBoss ，Red Hat 有了直接与甲骨文叫板儿的舞台。现在，甲骨文要开始反攻了。

　　Credit Suisse First Boston分析师梅纳德说，客户现在有了一种降低运行Linux 系统成本的方法，即使不准备采用，客户也可以将它作为谈判中的筹码。这一举措极具攻击性，将在未来数个季度影响Red Hat 的业务，因为甲骨文占了Red Hat 10%-15% 的收入。

　　Red Hat 已经在面临着价格压力。该公司的首席执行官马太说，我们没有一家企业客户以零售价购买支持服务，所有的企业客户都享受了批量折扣优惠。通过戴尔购买支持服务，威尔士获得了更低的价格。

　　在重新订购Linux 支持服务时，他仍然会选择Red Hat ，而不会转向甲骨文。他说，我认为Red Hat 已经证明它是一家成熟的Linux 厂商，它有着悠久的历史，成熟的产品。但他没有排除其它可能性，特别是，如果他是甲骨文的客户，他会认真地考虑甲骨文的Linux 支持服务。

　　间接利益

　　甲骨文的举措伤害了Red Hat ，但销售Linux 支持不会带来巨额的直接销售收入。Sanford C. Bernstein分析师查尔斯在上周四发布的一份报告中说，我们预计这一计划对于甲骨文的直接影响非常小。即使甲骨文能够获得Red Hat 2006财年销售收入(2.78亿美元)的一半儿，对甲骨文每股收益的影响也只有0.01美元。

　　但是，这并不意味着这一计划在商业上没有意义。查尔斯说，通过推动Linux 的普及，作为Linux 环境中的第一大数据库软件厂商，甲骨文将获得更多的利益。

　　但开放源代码数据库软件厂商Ingres的技术总监戴夫上周四在博客中写道，甲骨文Linux 支持的低价格只是一种噱头，它只比Red Hat 的支持服务低0.25%。

　　但甲骨文的数据库价格却要高得多。开放源代码数据库对甲骨文构成了威胁，尤其是在中、低端数据库市场上。

　　调查显示，Red Hat 的客户不会转向甲骨文。《CIO Insight 》在2005年进行的调查显示，计算科技官员认为Red Hat 在价值和可靠性方面排在第一位，84% 的官员对Red Hat评价是优秀或良好。而甲骨文只排在第39位。
