Computer and Network System Administrator

Position:
Technical Specialist Level I Grade 17
Salary: $43,974 to $55,373 + location pay

Department:
Child Psychiatry

Duties:
- Managing and maintaining all SUN Solaris, Red Hat Linux, SGI IRIX, and Windows 2003 servers and about 50 workstations.
- Managing multi-terabytes data on SAN and RAID disk arrays.
- Backing up data on servers
- Planning and administering OS patches, installs and upgrades
- Maintaining and improving Database Tracking System (A MIS implemented by using PHP, JavaScript and MySQL).
- Evaluating new technologies for fit with IT strategy & direction and providing recommendations and alternatives as necessary.
- Maintaining Lab’s website
- Providing technical support to all lab members with different background and different levels of computer knowledge.

Education:
BA or BS in computer science or related engineering fields. Masters degree preferred

Training & Experience:
- At least 2 years’ experience in an environment involving UNIX, Linux and Windows Servers, Sun Solaris 7/8/9, RHEL/CentOS4,5 and windows 2003 server preferred.
- In depth knowledge of LVM, SVM (DiskSuite), RAID and data security.
- Knowledge of tape backup with tape library.
- Good understanding of data availability across different platforms (NFS, Autofs, Samba, SFU…)
- HTML, shell/perl/PHP and MySQL programming experience. Ability to identify tasks which require automation and automate them.
- Hardware, System and Network troubleshooting and setup experience.
- Ability to allocate system storage and plan future storage requirements
- Basic knowledge of Active Directory, Windows Terminal servers, Group Policy and user/group permissions and their effect on files.
- Strong background in programming with at least 2 years of experience in administrating computer system and network.
- Working knowledge of Solaris 10, ZFS, Dell/EMC SAN and VMWare is a plus

Special Requirements:
Must be self motivated and detail oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.
A MINIMUM OF A THREE YEAR COMMITMENT is required and contingent upon continuous funding.
