ubuntu9.10系统连接不了

我装了ubuntu9.10版本的系统，但是网络连接那里无限开始连接好了可是又断了，我输入了sudo pppoeconf进入后按照提示操作，可惜它最后给一句Sorry,Iscanned 2 interfaces,but the access Concentrator of your provider did not respond. please check your network and modem cables. Another reason for the scan failure may also be another running pppoe process which controls the modem.
