哥伦比亚大学调查者得出结论：成百万的惠普打印机通过不安全的远程固件更新，可能导致遭受远程攻击。网络罪犯可窃取打印机上的个人信息（如待打印文档），或者由此攻击安全网络。惠普承诺理论上存在安全问题，但表示到目前为止，尚无用户报告出现非授权打印机访问事件。对调查者得出的观点，惠普部分予以了否认，部分仍在调查之中。

Cybercriminals could steal personal information or attack otherwise secure networks. HP agrees there is a theoretical security problem but says no customer has ever reported unauthorized printer access. The company denies some of the claims and is still investigating others.
