(1)Technical Support Engineer
The position is for a Technical Support Engineer in the GSS (Global Support Services) division of Red Hat to provide technical support to greater China and global customers. A senior position may be offered depending on the profile of the candidate. As a part of the responsibilities, the candidate is expected to:
• Answer telephone hotline and web based inquiries from customers regarding Red Hat software
• Analyze problems with non-functioning software to identify problem areas and recommend corrective actions
• Use professional concept and exercises judgment within defined procedures
• Have an understanding of different installation methods, networking, firewall, security, clustering, web servers, and any database
Requirements
• Two or more years of experience (5+ for senior) in troubleshooting, debugging, and configuration of different applications especially related to Linux.
• Deep understanding of Linux/Unix and Open Source
• Understanding of Operating Systems especially Linux, programming languages and Software Engineering.
• Specific experience in Kernel, TCP/IP, LDAP/NIS, NFS, SAMBA, TCP/IP. Enterprise Hardware (like SAN/NAS) a plus
• Good knowledge on Java, J2EE or JBoss a plus
• Well developed reading, writing and speaking Mandarin Chinese and English skills
• Fluent Cantonese speaking a plus
• Ability to convey information concisely and clearly to all levels of clients
• Prior experience in a support role is preferred
• Active participation in LUGs (Linux Unix Groups) and Open Source Projects will be an added advantage
• Senior engineers are expected to lead small teams and mentor junior people.
• Degree preferably in a scientific, technical or Computer Science.
(2) GPS CONSULTANT
Position Summary:
The Linux Consultant leads the onsite delivery and implementation of products and offerings from the Global Professional Services (GPS) organization of Red Hat. A highly respected and valued member of the Services team, the Consultant will have a diverse and deep understanding of enterprise Open Source and Linux usage, and experience applying those technologies appropriately. A Consultant is expected to have superb technical and communication skills, facilitating successful delivery of projects such as: providing reference architectures, proofs of concept, benchmarks, training sessions, designs, automation programs or scripts, performance enhancements, documentation, product patches, and/or other artifacts as needed. The Consultant's ability to master new technologies coupled with Red Hat's unparalleled training programs keep the Consultant in the leading edge of Red Hat's evolving technologies and allow the Consultant to advance their technical leadership.
Requirements:
• Excellent technical skills in Unix or Linux system configuration and administration that includes some or all of these areas: networking, security, kernel modules, open source and proprietary software tools for monitoring and management, file systems, SAN storage, LDAP integration, Linux kernel and module compilations, RPM packages creation and deployment, authoring programs using scripting languages (e.g. bash, ksh, python, perl), high availability clusters and cluster file systems (install, configure, tune, test, administer).
• Demonstrated experience desired with development tools (GCC, various IDEs, CVS, Rational Suite), source version control tools and source code repositories, and relational databases.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated experience communicating value, progress, and metrics (status) of key projects to required stakeholders and diverse audiences (technical and business).
• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or ability to complete within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to constantly learn about new technologies and apply those concepts to customers needs.
• Ability to work as part of a geographically dispersed team.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Mandarin.
Desired Skills:
• 5+ years experience with Linux in a system administration or system programming role.
• Advanced knowledge of Unix or Linux database administration and tuning.
• Advanced knowledge of Linux kernel internals, including performance tuning experience.
• Experienced implementing virtualization technologies in an enterprise setting.
• Knowledgeable on Open Source technologies and the Open Source Community.
• Project management skill
